Choosing Yoga Songs to Enhance Your WorkoutPosted by Yogi in Yoga Resources | 34 responses

Yoga classes and videos often incorporate soothing yoga songs into the workout. This inclusion of yoga songs provides the right ambiance for the session as yoga is a soft art form designed to reduce stress and promote relaxation. Improving your physical fitness and health are not the only benefits of yoga. There are also emotional and mental benefits. The distinctive yoga songs that plays during yoga sessions is the perfect way to encourage relaxation.
In the Home
You can easily include yoga songs in your home yoga sessions. Granted, this type of music generally does not play on many radio stations so you may have to swing over to the local record shop and pick up some tunes for your home.
Mercifully, there are a number of excellent yoga songs compilations that are out there that cost very little in terms of dollars and can be acquired relatively cheaply. Some music is available to the public at a reduced cost or no cost. Often, this music represents nations all around the world.
It gives you an excellent (and affordable) opportunity to listen to new and unique forms of music. Also, there is the additional benefit of having the music improve your yoga performance. Now, that is hardly a bad thing!
This Music isn’t Just for Yoga
Of course, one does not even have to be a student or even a fan of yoga to enjoy yoga songs. For example, classically trained dancers aren’t the only ones who enjoy listening classic waltzes. There is no reason why you can’t take pleasure in yoga songs while you drive, hike in the woods, or study.
Considering how stressful driving and work can be perhaps the inclusion of a little yoga songs into the environment would be just the prescription for not falling into the trap of being overwhelmed by difficulty. If you don’t think something as simple as yoga songs can keep you calm, just give it a try. You might find that you like it more than you thought you would.
More and more people have been turned on to the soothing benefits of yoga songs, and more will continue to do so which is an excellent thing!

Yep, so much of it is about the clothing and music. I once tried to do yoga in jeans and I can tell you it did not work.
I’ve tried a few different CDs recently but haven’t been able to find anything that sticks. Any recommendations?

It is vital to have the right music on, just as you said…it’s makes the mood, it throws your senses into focus mode and it’s really nice to listen to in your Ipod while you’re doing Yoga or workout. I prefer reggae music. I know I’m weird.

I have found that one of my most effective listening habits is the form of the white noise create by an ordinary box fan.
If I am looking to slip in more of a magical state, I go with Gregorian Chant, Enigma, and other Celtic influences like Loreena McKennit.
I am currently using slow jazz piano instrumentals for my yoga sessions and the effect was very relaxing.
Thanks for the tips! I generally listen to Om chants while doing yoga.

Meditation is equally important as yoga. This is for relaxing the body. Researches have shown that music in meditation has several other benefits. It develops a peaceful and more functional mind. Usually I listen to the Tibetan Chants during my meditation but there are other options too.
Music is such a powerful influence on both mind and body. The author is completely correct, choosing the right music can definitely enhance your yoga experience.

I listen yoga songs almost every day and not just when i do joga. I like that kind of music. Even when i do more intensive exercises it makes me more motivated.

Doing music and yoga together is a good combination. Can be done at home.
I have never tried listening to yoga songs for relaxation but I listen to brainwaves files which is able to put one in deep rest and deep state of mind. Try to google for alpha, theta, delta files – some are free for downloads
This is a great idea as I find it difficult to get a constant stream of relaxing music when I play a compilation record. This can break my train of thought and means I lose the state of mind I was in.

Good information Yogi, but then do you really need to have a specific Yoga songs other than the songs that relaxes you? I think as long as you love the song, it can help you relax and release those tensions that yoga exercise can do.
